Steph
I am my mother, and I am thankful for that.

As women I think we go through 3 stages...
“Ugh, I will NEVER be like my Mom.” into
“Omg I’m turning into my Mom aren’t I?” then eventually
“I’m so blessed to at least be a fraction of the woman my Mom was.”
In my stage of life, I’ve definitely hit #3.
I laughed to myself this morning in the car wash as I put the car in park and grabbed my book right away.
I have memories of my grandma picking me up from school in her maroon station wagon. She would always be reading a fiction book, Reader's Digest or the Bible. Once I got in the car she would put her bookmark in, then set it back in a box in the middle of the bench seat that was filled with other books, a word search, crossword puzzle book, wrapped candies, cough drops, and used and unused tissues.
When my mom would be waiting for me to get done with softball practice, I would be all sweaty and sandy, climb in the front seat, and there we would sit sometimes for 10 minutes in the parking lot so she could “quickly finish this chapter.” She loved romance novels and leadership/personal development books. Sometimes I would ask her what she was reading and she would reply “oh, one of my smut books.”
Two seasons ago, sitting in the blind with Sierra when she was able to harvest her first buck, I remember laughing because literally the buck of a lifetime came in. When we nudged her and told her to get ready and bring her gun up she replied “can I finish this chapter first.”
Omg hunny, really?
I’m thankful that this habit and passion of reading has been passed on to me and I’m able to pass it on to the girls.
Two quotes I love:
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss
&
“The man who does not read good books is no better than the man who can’t.” – Mark Twain
Are you at stage 1, 2 or 3 in “becoming your mother”?
What is one of your favorite traits that has been passed down to you?
